the sierra nevada right over us coming over the low pressure in southern california. but counterclockwise is the way the wind flows around the low. look what's coming up on the sierra. as this low goes south, most of that cloud cover should stall. instead of going over us, by tonight it should be closer to the south bay. gilroy, no doubt about it, took hongers. .75. but also numerous reports of hail about 2 inches deep. so the low moves south, you can see the low as it has thunderstorms from last night coming down. showers are moving south. a lot of lower clouds, a cooler, breezy pattern. some of that is moving up to the sierra nevada. the wrap-around effect bears watching around here. temperatures today start in the 50s. they will send up -- they will end up in the 60s. the system there is bumping the low out of the picture. look what's coming up from las vegas where there's big thunderstorms around mammoth and seattle. watch what happens right there. right there. coming in this evening around 6:00. you can see another round of shower activity. the low clouds are not going anywhere today

intersection here behind us. but a few hours ago this morning, is was completely blocked 0 to traffic -- blocked off to traffic to investigate this brawl that they say involved 20 to 30 people. the witness said it was 2:00 this morning when he looked out the window and sap the people involved in the fight -- and sap the people involved in the fight. he -- saw the people involved in the fight. now, the victim was rushed to the hospital with life- threatening injuries. as the website explained to us in spanish, the people were shouting kill the guy! kill the guy! the victim is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. another witness was hurt. officers don't believe the brawl was gang-related but this witness said he believes it -- was a racially-related fight. officers at the scene told us no weapons were used. this was a fistfight involving least 20 people. police have not made any arrests in connection with this assault. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> just about 7:03. a large early-morning fire in san carlos damaged one business and another business had to be evacuated.

to a neighbor who practically could feel the heat of the fire from his deck. he told us what he saw. >> from what i could tell, it was another oakland hills fire. it was so intense and so big. i thought what's going on here? it was just the one house. but it was very scary. >> reporter: when he first saw the firefighter, the firefighters were not called get. they got a call at about 12:15 and they got here and saw the fire was surrounding threatening -- the fire was threatsenning surrounding homes and they called for backup. there was one person in a wheelchair. two officers were able to pull that person out. so everyone is okay. certainly it was a dangerous fire. at one point the roof collapsed and firefighters had to evacuate. the fire was out within the next couple of hours. but firefighters say they will be here for a while. >> we'll be on scene for a while. when we get daylight, we'll be able to assess the structure. we'll bring out the building structure. and we'll continue our fire investigation. >> reporter: again, we have the daylight. this is the building where they will be going

. san jose firefighters inside this home behind us here, trying to make sure this fire is knocked down. there is one gentleman sitting here with a blanket around him. one of the people inside the home this morning. five people were inside at the -- in the home at the time, includinging who were hurt. tell me about the injuries. >> minor burns just from exposure to the heat. >> reporter: we heard this started with an explosion? >> that was the report. the report was an explosion fired by a crew. first thing, crews found a couple of bedrooms on fire. as far as the explosion goes, that's still under investigation. the hazmat team is here to do some monitoring to figure out if it was gas-related or another cause. >> reporter: thank you very much, can't be. i appreciate that -- captain. i appreciate that. the san jose firefighters are out here to make sure this fire is out. they believe this started from some sort of an explosion. a lot more investigate to do out here. we'll gather more information and be back later on here on "mornings on 2." alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 7:03678

"mornings on 2" starts now. >>> good morning and welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm mike mibach. dave clark has the day today. >> i'm tori campbell. it's wednesday, october 10th. we're tracking developing news out of union city. that's where several businesses were damaged overnight in a massive fire at a strip mall. claudine wong is live at the scene where firefighters are preparing to enter the building to look for the cause of the fire. >> reporter: good morning there are a variety of businesses here. you have a pizza shop and a restaurant. that area is the location where the firefighters believe the fire started. the smoke was spotted at about 1:00 a.m. this morning. but firefighters believe it had been burning for quite a while. it had just been in the roof area. so no one had seen it until about 1:00. the damage stretches across the strip mall but they believe it likely started at a pizza restaurant in the inside corner. >> probably that's the area where the fire started and we have to get our investigator in there. we have t

fashion. alex savidge is live in san francisco to let us know how this is affecting the team? >> reporter: a major setback for the team as they are getting ready to race in the america's cup. the boat flipped and had it to be towed back here to team headquarters at pier 80 in san francisco t was towed back late last night. the damaged -- san francisco. it was towed back here late last night. this was the scene yesterday. it all happened yesterday at 3:00 during a training run on the bay near san francisco. there were 11 oracle team members but none of them were seriously hurt. the capsized boat was caught by a strong tide and drifted. several miles past the bridge. crew members say this accident was triggered by strong winds close to 30 miles an hour an a -- and a swift current on the bay. surreal feeling. we've been pushing the boat all of the time. we found our limit today. there is a pretty big crash. >> reporter: crew members say the platform of the boat appears to be in good shape. the team will have to get a closer look at the other damage. that will happen at some point this mornin

a woman hit a power pole. allie rasmus joining us live from the scene where people are waking up to power lines on their cars and in their yards. >> reporter: this is why there were 5,000 people are without power. you can see the 45-foot power pole sliced in half. that car white car right next to it that is the driver that crashed into it. knocking the power pole over. earlier this morning there were power lines still dangling from it off of people's roofs and homes. you can see pg&e workers have made good progress since they have gotten out here. they have lined up neatly all those power lines. now those pg&e workers are trying to figure out how they will go about cleaning up the mess. they have to of course order new power pole and restring everything. the crash happened at around 3:00 this morning. the female driver involved was taken to the hospital in a stretcher. we don't know her condition however. police tell us they are looking into the possibility that this driver may have been under the influence of something but they don't know that for sure yet. people in the neighborhood say

or not this was an officer- involved shooting involving vallejo police. it's something only vallejo police can confirm for us. they have not responded to our requests. several requests for more information this morning. now, after the shots were fired, a fire broke out in the back of the home. neighbors say the fire looked like -- the flames look like it engulfed pretty much the back end of the house. there is a vallejo fire investigator out here, trying to figure out how the fire started and we'll show you the scene back live, you can look at that blue van in the middle of the street. that's a forensic team from san mateo county who arrived about 30 minutes ago to assist with this investigation. but again, we're still waiting to get more information from vallejo police about the two people who were arguing in this house. two people who prompted those 911 calls this morning. we don't know if they were shot. if so we don't know their condition. again, we are still waiting to get more information from vallejo police about exactly what happened this morning. live in vallejo, allie rasmus, ktvu. >>> san francisc

, where we've been. these are the northbound lanes of 101 coming toward us here. whenever you get significant rainfall and the rain just started to come down very heavy, just within the last half-hour, you can see some of that standing water starting to build up on the section of the roadway, cars coming through here seeing some folks slowing down. i want to show you what the scene looked like. here is some video, cars coming through this area. there wasn't a whole lot of standing water. according to a spokesperson for the chp that talked with here in the marin area, he told me, really, they don't have too much in the way of significant problems. so it seems like folks are taking it easy. there are other weather-related problems. we have video from this morning. that's caused a power outage near brookwood and highway 12. we're told by pg&e fewer than 100 customers at this point without power. but another issue associationed with the rain this morning. but the problems -- associated with the rain this morning. but the problems, there are spinouts and according to the chp nothing to

of those scenes. we do want to start with a restaurant fire. let's go to tara moriarty who joins us live with a look at the firefight still underway. tara? >> reporter: cau -- claudine, this is a really stubborn fire. crews have been battling this for two hours. you can see the roof collapsed. as a result, all muni lines through west portal are shut down, the k, l and m. that's going to cause a traffic nightmare this morning. more than 100 firefighters are on the scene fighting these flames. the call came in from a passerby at 5:00 a.m. we're in front of the west portal union station. it started at the gobble restaurant and spread to an orthodontist's office. we'll have to wait for arson investigators to figure out what happened. crews cut walls out to let the fire breathe so they could attack it from up above. >> it seems like it got out of control at one point. was it? >> accessing it was difficult. and then it extended to a greater alarm, a third alarm. >> reporter: this is actually the chief neighborhood for police and firefighters. they are all kind of shaking their heads because th
